WHY MDC MATTERS

Water Connects Us All

All living species on Earth form communities that are connected inextricably by one ocean. When we affect positive change on the habitats that support Olympic Peninsula communities, we have a global impact.

A Future

Imagine a vibrant Olympic Peninsula, strengthened by economic vitalization as it retains all of the things that make it the unique place it has always been.

A New Home

In this new facility, we’ll tell our region’s story by tracing waterways from mountains to estuary to deep ocean; revealing the marine life that lives in the Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary and the Strait of Juan de Fuca; and showing how water shapes our lives, relationships and history, including its enduring influence on indigenous ways of life.

Strength in Community

Our new waterfront campus will deepen learning connections across cultures and generations.

Sense of Place

For visitors to the new center, the adventure doesn’t end at our campus confines. Our region is a destination in itself, unparalleled in many ways by any place else on Earth. The Marine Discovery Center’s exhibits and focus on our connected watershed inspire its exploration.
